Natural Turf Bowling Greens at Tai Po Waterfront Park

HKLBA noticeLCSD is going to reviewing whether the two natural turf bowling greens at Tai Po Waterfront Park need to be retained or they can be changed to artificial ones.  Please submit your views and comments via club convenors in writing by 22 June 2011 to HKLBA office.

Below is an extraction from a letter of LCSD.

The Leisure Services Branch of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department provides a number of recreational and sports facilities throughout the territories. Among these facilities, there are 10 bowling greens at 6 different venues in which Tai Po Waterfront Park of Tai Po District is the only venue providing natural turf bowling greens in the territories.

Lawn bowls can be played at natural or artificial grass surface.  Indeed, natural turf is more environmentally friendly, but it takes a lot of resources and time to maintain the natural turf in a good condition for playing the game, as compared with the artificial turf.   In this related, the management of TPWP is going to reviewing whether the two natural turf bowling greens at Tai Po Waterfront Park need to be retained or they can be changed to artificial ones.

We note that the HKLBA and its affiliated clubs, is a large pool of long-term users for using TPWP's bowling green facilities and should be most grateful if you could provide your views and so as to facilitate us to consider the coming approach.

Thank you for your kind assistance in advance.
